How to pair the YesColours paint colours with metallic hardware finishes

By Emily Harnasz on

It’s no secret that renovating a space is a challenge. There’s just so much to think about: choosing paint colours, fussing about furniture, considering soft furnishings and picking the right artwork, then deciding the right colour hardware… it’s definitely an overwhelming task, if you ask us. But hey... it doesn't have to be!

Here are a few ideas from us and Franchi — ironmongery experts, to help you make the process of pairing paint colours and hardware a little easier.

Sometimes even details like choosing pull handles can be overwhelming for the already overwhelmed renovator... so we're here to help with some useful DIY on pairing paint colours with hardware in any home and any space.

Chrome.

To enhance the deliciously cool undertone of a silver finish, try sticking with colours with a blue undertone for a sense of harmony. Keep within lighter, paler shades too as this will compliment that clean metallic shine. With that said, how about trying Franchi Trad Polished Chrome with paint colours like our Fresh Lilac or Fresh Pink? And, in case you still want something with a bit of warmth, no worries, give our Fresh Yellow paint colour a try. These cool based tones will sing with that glossy chrome finish and work as the perfect duo.

Chrome is a popular hardware finish and one that pairs well with cool tones, rich in blue undertones, such as our Fresh Pink, Fresh Lilac and Fresh Yellow paints. See all products in this moodboard here.

Nickel.

Similar to chrome, Nickel is a cooler metal, but it does have a warm subtlety about it, meaning you can get away with using it with more saturated colours. Because of its balanced, timeless nature, pair Trad Satin Nickel with classic mid-toned hues like our Serene Blue or Mellow Teal paint colours for a well rounded and wholesome scheme you’ll never tire of.

Nickel is a cooler hardware finish but with a few tricks you can help warm it up and make any space even more welcoming. Yes, we're talking about pairing it with colours such as our Serene Blue and Mellow Teal paints. See all products in this moodboard here.

Bronze.

Bronze has an earthy, reddish-brown quality, which makes hardware in this metal feel comfortable when snuggled up with warmer tones. So consider Sunset Bronze accents to create a rustic, Tuscan style paradise with a rich shade like our Loving Orange paint colour (add in Loving Neutral if you so desire) or bring a sense of stately opulence with our heritage Mellow Green paint. Plants would be a great addition here too — but, to be honest, aren’t they always?

Bronze is the perfect hardware finish for a cosy, cocooning space, full of warmth and vintage charm. Pair it with earthy paint colours such as our Loving Orange, Loving Neutral and Mellow Green and you're golden... or, well, bronzy. See all products in this moodboard here.

Brass.

Brass has a bright, yellow-gold character, if it were a person, it would probably be Dolly Parton — jolly and cheerful, not that you asked, but hey that’s what we think. Anyway, back to colours, and our Passionate Olive Green paint colour loves to be paired with like-minded warm tones, so try it alongside Graceful Neutral paint and Trad Satin Brass for a grounded and comforting palette that’s warming, but never overdone.

Optimistic, cheerful and full of joy — this is the essence of the Brass hardware finish. For a grounded, homely colour scheme, pair it with our Graceful Neutral and Passionate Olive Green paint colours. It's a match made in heaven, for sure. See all products in this moodboard here.

Copper.

With more of an orange tinge, copper has lots of energy but, did you know, it has the ability to soften to a green patina if given the chance... just like the Statue of Liberty — everyday's a school day here. For a bold, rich contrast, give our Loving Teal paint colour a whirl with this vibrant metal, or for a timeless and classic approach, why not dabble with a dash of our Passionate Blue & Passionate Warm White paints? This would be iconic with Trad Satin Copper hardware for your kitchen glow-up.

Full of energy but easily balanced too, Copper pairs particularly well with saturated blues and teals, such as our Passionate Blue and Loving Teal, as well as our Passionate Warm White paint colour. Pure classic. See all products in this moodboard here.

Black.

Black hardware is having its moment right now, it's modern, it's bold, it says ‘Hey, I’m here!’. So, of course, you could keep the likes of PA6 Black hardware to a monochromatic scheme by pairing it with our Electric Hot White paint colour. It’s a high contrast dream, but why not ‘YesColours’ it up and add our bestselling Electric Mint Green paint colour into the mix? And what about a slither of Electric Red in there too? Did someone say retro diner? We can practically smell the coffee and pancakes.

It's no secret that black is such a versatile colour. That's why the Black hardware finish can be easily adapted to any room or colour scheme. But if you're looking for some colour inspiration, try pairing it with our Electric Hot White, Electric Red and Electric Mint Green paint colours... bold retro diner vibe anyone? See all products in this moodboard here.

Rose Gold.

The clue’s in the name with this one. Rose gold boasts a pretty pink undertone with a warm pinkish hue that gives it a soft romantic feel. Its distinct and versatile nature means hardware in Trad Polished Rose Gold would feel just as content in a tonal scheme with friends like Mellow Pink & Calming Pink as it would with more contrasting, lively choices like our Dopamine Decor essentials — our Joyful Lilac and Passionate Teal paint colours. It really is the choice for you unique and quirky souls out there.

Choose a Rose Gold finish for your hardware to achieve a more versatile, bold and feminine look in your space. This particular finish pairs incredibly well both with tonal palettes like our Mellow Pink and Calming Pink paired together, as well as more quirky paint colours like our Passionate Teal and Joyful LilacSee all products in this moodboard here.

And there you have it! Decorating can be tricky, but picking the right paint colours and hardware doesn't have to be. Match your metals with the right paint shades, and you’ll create a space that’s uniquely you and stands the test of time. But our main advice? Have fun with it and let your personality shine!
