How to use teal colours in your home

By Emily Harnasz on

Teal is a hard-working, versatile little hue, one that can bring depth and excitement to many colour schemes, a reliable all-rounder if you will. We strongly believe it would run for Student President if it could and is guaranteed to win.

But what makes the colour teal so good? Well, teal is a harmonious blend of blue and green, it can range from a light, almost turquoise shade to a dark, moody hue which means there’s always a shade to suit your home decor and interior style (and even fashion style too!). Its dreamy, rejuvenating nature reminds us of crisp tropical waters, art deco velvet sofas and soft peacock feathers — making it a wonderfully emotive and intimate shade you’ll want to embrace in your home.

So, without further ado, here are some handy tips on how to incorporate the colour teal in your home decor and interior colour scheme right away.

Go all in.

If it's a bold statement with a dash of luxurious sophistication you’re after, look no further than a full colour drench with a rich and moody teal just like our Loving Teal paint colour. This scheme might not exactly be for the faint of heart, as it fully immerses you into a world of intense colour and drama, but would suit living rooms and dining rooms that want that contemporary, eye-catching look. Go on, you know you want to.

Hit the high note.

Teal is a fabulous colour for creating a harmonious and ‘tonal’ palette (see what we did there?). It’s ideal for spaces where you want to feel calm and relaxed, such as bedrooms and living spaces. Of course, this colour will also work in any room, depending on the mood you want to create.

Essentially, go for navy, aqua, green and blue for the wall colours furniture, art and accessories for a timeless and tranquil vibe that never feels jarring. Then, break things up a little with warm wooden textures to finish this style perfectly. We practically saw your stressed out shoulders drop with relief.

The soft touch.

If you love teal but would prefer it just in little colourful splashes throughout the home, we’ve got you covered here too. We’re advocates for embracing creative ways to use colour in the home and adding teal accents is up there with the best of them. Spruce up plain window recesses, old bookshelves or tired skirting boards with just a splash of teal and welcome a refreshed and exciting colour pop to your space.

And don’t forget those soft furnishings too! Switch out cushion covers, rugs and artwork to those with teal touches and you’ve got yourself a stylish update with minimum cost and effort. Now, that’s our kind of interiors revamp.

Top teal tip.

As teal can have many undertones, consider the lighting in the space you’re decorating. Opt for warmer green teals such as our Mellow Teal paint colour for north facing spaces and more blue teals like our Loving Teal paint colour for south facing spaces. This will help balance the light and make this stunning hue look more welcoming in your space.
