3 Autumnal colour palettes and how to use them in your home

By Emily Harnasz on

Here at YesColours, we are constantly inspired by the natural world around us, and arguably there's no better time to experience mother nature in all her glory than when those bright summer days turn to the unmistakable golden crisp glow of autumn.

We love this time of the year so much we even made an edit out of it. Enter Autumn & Winter Berries, our ode to this glorious rich and fiery season. The edit inspired our entire palette because of the memories this season gives us. Sunny skies and a rainbow of different coloured leaves on the trees, celebrations of bonfire nights, Mawlid, Diwali, Hanukah, the Christmas holidays.

And now, without further ado, here are 3 autumnal colour schemes and how we think you could use them in your home.

Very Berry.

Diving right in with a scheme utterly epitomising our Autumn edit. Take Passionate Olive Green onto the ceiling - yep you heard us right - not only would it be a bold statement, but it will also create a cocooning and inviting atmosphere that you’ll want to hunker down in all season. Pairing this shade with our immensely rich Loving Pink on a chimney breast or to zone key areas such as reading nook or shelving will give an unexpected architectural impact that stays stylish all year round. What next? Add pops of Joyful Pink within small items of furniture like side tables to liven up the scheme. Alternatively, choose our Serene Neutral paint colour if you’d prefer to tone down the scheme just a tad.

Remember, a colour scheme is for life not just for a season, so make sure you consider the longevity of the colours you choose long after a season has ended.

Orange crush.

Oops... does that sound a bit too bold? Don’t worry we’ve got you covered.

For a fun and uplifting take on traditional autumnal colours, give our Joyful Orange and Passionate Warm White paint colours a whirl. You can go as bold or as subtle as you like with this duo just by playing around with the proportions.

Use Joyful Orange on all walls for a bold and brave statement, or leave it to small areas or feature wall if this feels too much. Either way, pairing with Passionate Warm White will cleanse that palette and keep it feeling fresh and clean.

See, autumn doesn't always have to be dark now, does it!

Go Green.

This one is for those die-hard autumn fans: look no further than the wholesome, enriching, grounding power of our Loving Green paint.

Green is a colour that makes us feel tranquil, renewed and rested; it symbolises nature and is therefore the perfect colour to celebrate the autumn season. And for us, there’s no better way to enjoy a colour like this than to completely immerse yourself in it, go the full hog and paint it everywhere: walls, ceiling, woodwork, you name it. We guarantee that you’ll feel like you're wrapped in a warm embracing hug that you’ll never want to leave.

One thing to remember though is that a colour scheme is for life, not just for a season (well maybe not for life but you get what we mean). With that in mind, make sure you consider the longevity of the colours you choose long after a season has ended. Of course, be inspired by the world around you and all the amazing ideas it has to offer, but make sure you create a scheme that is right for the long haul... after all, no one wants the faff of redecorating every few months, right?
